Masters Historic Racing has today announced its 2021 European calendar. Bouncing back from a difficult 2020 season, Masters has compiled a nine-round European Tour that will see its grids travel from Donington Park in April, through to an Iberian double-header with visits to Barcelona and Portimao in late October. The Masters 2021 Tour will be boosted by the addition of a seventh series that will present demonstration laps from powerful single-seaters of the past five decades.
After the 2020 season was hit by race cancellations, Masters have carefully planned a 2021 European calendar that is aimed at coping with the possible continuing backlash of the crisis while mitigating the risk of travel restrictions continuing into the early part of the new year. The season will start with the annual Masters Test Day on 18th March, moving to Donington Park this year for a circuit more suited to Masters cars. After that, the race season will kick off in April, with the chance for some valuable race time before the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, on Good Friday and Easter Saturday with the Masters Historic Race Weekend at Donington Park. The Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch will shortly follow, maintaining its traditional late-May fixture on the GP circuit.
Moving to the continent in summer, the Masters Tour will visit Paul Ricard in mid-June for the French Historic Grand Prix, as France’s blue-riband historic event switches homes from Magny-Cours. Next up is the Historic Grand Prix at Zandvoort, that, for its tenth-anniversary edition has been brought forward to July from its traditional early-September slot. August will see the return of two not-to-be-missed events that were cancelled this year – The Classic at Silverstone and Zolder’s Historic Grand Prix.
The final rounds will take part in October next year with Masters again playing a big part in the Spa Six Hours, one of the crown jewels of European historic racing, now rescheduled to the first weekend in October. The curtain will drop on the 2021 season with a double-header of events at two great Iberian circuits. First up, is Barcelona three weeks after Spa, where Masters will re-join the Espíritu de Montjuïc event on the Barcelona GP circuit. The following weekend will see a welcome reschedule of this year’s planned visit to the wonderful Portimao circuit in the Algarve, where the Masters 2021 Tour will come to an end.
The Masters European Tour will again offer plenty of great races for its five main core series of Masters Historic Formula One, Masters Historic Sports Cars, Masters Endurance Legends, Gentlemen Drivers and Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars. At Donington, Brands Hatch and Silverstone, these will be joined by the stand-alone Pre-66 Mini races that Masters pioneered two years ago, the three rounds composing a Masters Mini Triple Crown for 2021. Finally, the Masters Single Seater Demos are an exciting new addition to the Masters line-up, building on the F1 Demo sessions originally planned for 2020. The new range of demo sessions will be open to all powerful single-seaters from the past half century, ranging from F1 and F5000 to GP2, Indy Cars and F3000!
