GET READY TO RACE WITH MASTERS IN 2022

November 23, 2021

The 2022 UK & European Calendar brings all of your favourite circuits together with some new additions in an exciting year ahead for drivers and racing fans!

Masters Historic Racing has released a thrilling 2022 UK and European Calendar packed with great racing for all to enjoy; and by tailoring the calendar to competitor needs, we’re looking forward to helping drivers and teams to race as much as possible with more great historic racing experiences for everyone!

The 2022 season will see an increased emphasis on UK races for our Masters Gentlemen Drivers and Masters Pre-66 Touring Car grids – including the relaunch of the much-loved Oulton Park Gold Cup – while Masters Historic Formula One, Masters Historic Sports Cars and Masters Endurance Legends will continue to tour the fantastic European GP Circuits. The vibrant Barcelona and the nostalgic Nürburgring will make a welcome return to the European calendar, amongst others, while Masters will also pay an exciting debut visit to the Red Bull Ring in June 2022.

We’ve learnt from the rollercoaster ride of the last two years which have been affected by Covid and Brexit.  Building on these experiences, Masters is helping its teams and drivers race as much as possible in 2022 by partly splitting their five main grids across a larger number of events, in recognition of the fact that travel has been harder for some grids than others. A calendar with an increased number of UK dates will support the Masters Gentlemen Drivers and Masters Pre-66 Touring Car competitors, easing their EU carnet obligations while still offering these grids several continental highlights. We hope this will make it easier for competitors to enjoy more racing in 2022 and for fans to be able to see more great racing on-track and online.

Hello Oulton Park! The Masters Gentlemen Drivers and Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars will line up at the fantastic Oulton Park Gold Cup (29/31 July) – a great opportunity to return to this iconic British circuit. Masters Gentlemen Drivers competitors will also enjoy international rounds at the Nürburgring and the new Red Bull Ring venue as well as a stand-alone event at the Silverstone International Trophy in mid-May. Both grids will run at the three core British Masters events; including much-loved home events at Donington Park (15/16 April) and Brands Hatch (28/29 May); as well as enjoying the buzzing atmosphere of The Classic, Silverstone (26/28 August). If that wasn’t enough, Spa, Zandvoort and Portimão will see the Masters Gentlemen Drivers and Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars join each other in a one-shot, single concurrently run race. Pit stops will be adjusted in the combined races to allow teams with both types of cars to compete in each car in the same race.

The New… On the continent, the Classic at the Red Bull Ring (event name tbc), June (10/12), is an exciting new addition to the Masters calendar, with four Masters grids travelling to the mountain circuit for a brand-new historic racing festival in the Austrian Alps (imagine the views)!

The Favourites… Meanwhile, Masters will make an exciting return to the racing fanfare at Zandvoort’s Historic Grand Prix, after a one-year gap, on a mid-July date.  A busy October at the blue-riband Spa Six Hours will follow, before venturing back to the Algarve Classic Festival as a season finale. Two very familiar and stunning circuits also return to the calendar in 2022; Barcelona will take prime position as the Masters season-opener (the last visit here was Espíritu de Montjuïc meeting in 2017); and the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, which is under a new welcoming management team, will be inviting teams to enjoy its traditional place on the Masters schedule in mid-August (Pistenklause here we come!)

The 2022 Masters UK & European Tour will be packed with racing delights for drivers and fans alike. Check out the calendar below.  And now, we just have to wait for the winter months to pass…until we can take off the covers, warm up those thundering engines and get back to our favourite race tracks once again!
