DESCRIPTION:The 20th Anniversary of the Rally that is the ultimate test of both driving ability and endurance. If there was a choice of only ever doing one event again\, many seasoned entrants would surely choose the beguiling and perennial RAC Rally of the Tests – The one they all want to win.\nThe anniversary edition will honour the traditions of the past in the greatest possible fashion\, with the historic route of Blackpool to Torquay\, beginning under the famous illuminations and ending on the English Riviera. \nIn between this\, the rally will drive in the wheel tracks of past greats\, scaling heights and standing on the shoulders of giants in Wales\, including Epynt\, and relishing in the challenges of the narrow roads of the South-West\, as well as being stuffed full of challenging off-road tests. \nThere will be celebrations aplenty to mark the anniversary milestone\, but the biggest tribute will come in the form of a route of the upmost integrity and a competition that is always undertaken in reverence to our traditions and will undoubtedly be fought hard.

SUMMARY:Sahara Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Nine million square kilometres of sand\, seas of rolling dunes\, and large rock plateaus. The Sahara is the largest hot desert in the world\, a vast wilderness that stretches all the way across the top of Africa. There aren’t many environments on the planet that can claim to be as harsh as the extremes experienced in the Sahara\, excesses of temperature at either end of the mercury\, dust storms that engulf all that stand before\, and a lack of water that even the Dromedary Camel struggles with.\nBut for all the hardship\, this is a place where life endures and finds a way\, whether that be the West African Cheetah\, or its distant cousin the Sand Cat or the countless other examples of wildlife that call this wilderness home. Human life also finds a way\, nomadic herdsmen eking out a life in this severe environment. \nIt is also beautiful\, the golden sand of the desert striking a hard contrast with the azure blue of the sun-filled skies\, oasis of green punctuating the dunes in a riot of life\, water and colour and the topographic and geological transitions that are sometimes the only clue to any changes in elevation or guides to direction. \nTo witness this huge area is a once in a lifetime experience\, a privilege and a reminder that life can conquer all and find a way just about anywhere. To rally out here\, on the other hand\, is a joy that is only really known by those that have done it. The Sahara Challenge will select the very best bits that the desert has to offer and condense it all into a 12-day adventure\, that will test the soul and leave an unrivalled feeling of triumph after one has conquered the ever-encroaching sands of the desert. \nBeginning and ending in Spain\, just a short hop over the Mediterranean Sea will transport all of those involved into another time\, a distant world where the roads were sparsely populated and the roadsides even less so. If remote rallying is what you are after\, the Sahara Challenge is the test for you. \nFor those with Peking to Paris 2022 ( now postponed until 2023) on their minds\, the Sahara Challenge will also provide a very important platform to shake down cars and test them before the ultimate challenge begins just a few months later. Few other rallies will provide an opportunity to test cars in such extremes of temperature and on sandy and soft roads that are always a hallmark of the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. \nWhatever your reason for entering\, the Sahara Classic offers to be a phenomenal adventure for anyone brave enough to enter. The opportunity to experience one of the world’s last great wildernesses\, and rally a classic car whilst doing so\, well\, those chances don’t just come along every day.

SUMMARY:Summer Trial
DESCRIPTION:In keeping with what has now become tradition\, after two years exploring Shropshire and its neighbouring counties the Summer Trial moves to a new location for 2022. Our new base in the Grantham area will give us great access to some of the best roads and venues that are available in the interesting and often unexplored county of Lincolnshire. The fact that Lincolnshire is the second largest county in England and that it is predominantly farmland\, bodes well for an entertaining event that should enable crews to enjoy uncluttered roads and scenic byways.\nBy limiting the amount of time spent away from home\, the Summer Trial allows crews to enjoy a multi day event while minimising the impact on work and other real-life commitments. In 2022 our timetable will see things reverting to the original and popular format that will enable most crews to travel to the start on the Friday morning and depart for home early on Sunday afternoon. Navigation is straightforward and many chose the event to introduce other family members or colleagues to the sport; others like to take part in order to shake down their cars in preparation for our longer duration events but an enjoyable time is in stall for everyone.

SUMMARY:Trans Mongolian Motor Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Gobi desert landscape and it’s desolate beauty will become the base for a cross desert route that hasn’t been used since 2007 and a final ‘Hinti’ loop\, that for HERO-ERA\, has remained untrodden since they ran the reincarnated P2P through Mongolia in 2007.\nWith four half days to relax or tinker with cars\, the longest half day is 230 kms and the shortest 140 kms with a 360 km average per day. \nThis Mongolian stand alone event will take adventurers and their rally cars into the wild to test both their skill and the endurance of crew and car. Teams will be subjected to the extreme climate as it changes hour by hour\, day by day in probably the most remote motoring event in the world. \nSpending 15 nights under canvass in the high standard of camps\, teams will be thrilled by the often cloudless skies and vast canopy of stars above\, whilst below\, the camaraderie of entrants from around the world will add friendship to the magical experience. \nThe Trans Mongolian Motor Challenge will start and finish in Ulaanbaatar with a further visit to the capital before tackling the final previously unused ‘Hinti’ loop past Genghis Khan’s birthplace with a backdrop of awesome scenery and relatively smooth tracks. At one point in the recce\, the crew were overtaken by a Saiga Antelope which decided to chase them\, the recce car was travelling at 70 kph! \nWildlife will feature in this vast terrain. The Golden Eagle\, Bactrian Camels\, Gazelle\, wild Horses and Marmuts\, all add to the experience\, as do the friendly locals who are periodically seen. They will explain if asked\, what that strange whistling noise is from the sand as ‘just the dunes singing as the wind blows’ in the most northerly of the world’s deserts. \nThere will be particularly challenging days such as when crews have to jolt over 100 kms of corrugated desert in the Delgeriin Valley. The alternative route not being viable as it is a sea of soft sand ready to swallow a rally car whole. But then there will be respite at such camps as Teel River\, a remote and raw yet beautiful location\, soothed by the river with soft sand for tent floors and weary bodies! \nAs Senior Route Planner and architect of the Trans Mongolian Motor Challenge event\, Chris Elkins commented; “For those who have been to Mongolia before\, many want to experience the wonders again\, but for those who haven’t been\, this is quite an experience. On a previous event we had to split resources\, so I left my fellow official at one control whilst I travelled for miles to another point in the middle of the Gobi desert. \n“I sat there alone in the vast open space\, you couldn’t hear a thing\, no wind\, not an animal\, no living thing\, no other sound anywhere\, just total other world silence. You have to pinch yourself at times as a reminder of just how lucky you are to be there. There are not that many places in the world where that happens\, it is quite a special place.” \nTomas de Vargas Machuca\, Chairman of HERO-ERA; “We have long wanted to create a stand alone Mongolian Motor Challenge and the delayed date of the Peking Paris has handed us the opportunity to craft a deep event experience that caters for the adventurous motorists who should be thrilled by this motoring challenge. It will be in the style and format of our classic endurance rallies\, organised to our usual high standards. \n“We also expect the event to feature on our calendar past 2022 along with our flagship event\, the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge\, which takes place every three years.”

SUMMARY:A Novice Trial
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of A Novice Trial held at the HERO-ERA Headquarters last year we once again return to Bicester\, a fantastic location for the training elements as well as great roads for the practical side. The format of A Novice Trial is designed to explain and demonstrate the skills required for classic car rallying in a fun and informative way. The event is aimed at those new to rallying\, or as an introduction to the sport for your partner or other family members. The event begins on the Friday evening with a seminar covering the basics. Saturday will alternate practical and theory to cement the new found skills. Culminating on Sunday with a mini rally to test those new found skills and show you exactly what to expect on your next adventure with HERO-ERA. The action concludes early on Sunday afternoon with an awards ceremony and a buffet lunch so you’ll have time to return at a reasonable hour in readiness for work on Monday. You will leave with all the tools necessary to tackle a HERO-ERA Blue or Green Event\, such as the Summer Trial or HERO Challenge\, ensuring that you not only enjoy the event but also give you a chance to work up the leaderboard.

SUMMARY:London to Lisbon
DESCRIPTION:The London to Lisboa returns in 2022\, offering competitors the truly international experience of rallying through five Countries within Western Europe. The event will run over ten days allowing a couple of shorter days to give crews the option of a rest or savouring the local sites as we venture south. The provisional route (below) starts at an historic venue\, Brooklands. Competitors will be flagged away close to the old banking and runways where many a pioneer set records on track and in the air. Cars will leave on Thursday morning after the morning rush hour in search of their own glory and adventure\, aiming to finish in Lisboa on Saturday 30th May. This will allow crews a leisurely flight back due to the UK bank holiday Monday.\nAn enthralling 10 day event awaits over some 2000 miles (3500kms) with a blend of regularities and tests wherever possible. This 2022 event will take a different route from previous rallies\, heading through central France\, it will add the spice of another country by exploring the delights of Andorra and it’s breath-taking passes that cross the Pyrenees into northern Spain. Three days adventuring Northern Spain via the Picos de Europa will guide crews into Portugal and onto the finish in Lisboa.

Our route then takes us through the very best scenery and roads that the area has to offer before heading into new territory with an overnight halt at St Andrews. Day 2 sees crews covering some famous ‘Flying Scotsman’ roads as they head into the Cairngorms and a halt in Aviemore. The final day will take a less than direct route to ensure crews are kept busy before arriving at the world famous Gleneagles Hotel for the final control and post event festivities. \nOur Route Designers have been busy crafting another first-class journey. This combines scenic Regularities on remote country roads with exciting Special Tests where you can enjoy your fine vintage cars to their full. The 140 mile route will feature some of the best driving roads in the north east of Wales. Using our Competition Directors local lanes\, test venues synonymous with the Vale of Clwyd Classic\, together with some new additions and exciting test venues\, the opening round of the 2022 HERO Challenge Championship is set to be a great start to the season. Ten Tests and six regularities will keep both navigators and drivers on their toes whilst still allowing novice and newcomers alike to get the best from our one day events.
