SENSATIONAL NEW SUPERCAR RACERS COMPLETE CLASSIC 2022 RACECARD

April 13, 2022

Already supercharged by its new August Bank Holiday date, this summer’s not-be-be-missed festival – The Classic (26-28 August) – will captivate fans with its greatest ever line-up of retro races.

All the compelling crowd-pleasers from motor sport’s golden eras are back on The Classic bill and, together with a pair of spectacular new supercar showdowns making their global debut, provides the widest showcase of high octane track action from across motorsport history.

With two thrilling 30-minute encounters on Saturday and Sunday, the new double-header Masters GT4 Classic Silverstone Challenge is certain to be an instant hit with both competitors and spectators. The grid will be split into two groups: one for all ‘current’ GT4 cars that are still eligible to compete globally, and a ‘classic’ class for older models that are now out of homologation.

Since its introduction in 2007, GT4 has proved to be a huge international success. Thanks to the mix of incredibly exciting supercars and a clever performance equalisation formula that ensures the best possible wheel-to-wheel entertainment, GT4 has delivered some truly epic on-track action – the exhilaration of which is now primed and ready to join the historic racing ranks for the very first time at The Classic.

Fuelled by massive manufacturer interest, a vast array of supercar models have been homologated for the thriving GT4 category. What’s more, these represent many of the most acclaimed marques such as Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. Other famous GT4 cars that could be making history at Silverstone include the Corvette C6, KTM X-Bow, Lotus Evora, Sin R1, Ginetta G55 and Nissan 350Z.

“Time never stands still and every new year brings exciting new opportunities for us to expand our incredible portfolio of races at The Classic – and the enthralling Masters GT4 Classic Silverstone Challenge is the latest of these terrific innovations,” revealed Nick Wigley, CEO of The Classic promoter Goose Live Events. “The addition of such fantastic GT4 supercars not only adds yet another ace to The Classic’s already impressive pack but also ensures this summer’s on-track bill will be the most comprehensive ever, spanning the last 100 years of glorious motor racing history.”

The spellbinding new grid open to all GT4 cars both past and present is overseen by Masters Historic Racing in association with SRO Motorsports Group, which originally established and now license the class globally. Masters Founder and President, Ron Maydon, is equally thrilled to be unleashing this awe-inspiring debutant at The Classic.

“We are delighted to be working with Stephane Ratel and his SRO Motorsports Group to pull together this new and exciting grid for GT4 cars at The Classic this year. We are sure that the huge crowd are going to appreciate these stunning cars and we are looking forward to learning a lot more about modern GT racing in the process!”

With confirmation of the new Masters GT4 Classic Silverstone Challenge, The Classic’s full roster of 20 action-packed retro races is now complete. In total, The Classic this year will feature 14 different stand-out grids reviving all of the sport’s greatest periods with entries often exceeding 50 incredible cars from yesteryear.

A number of these evocative collections – including HGPCA Pre ’66 Grand Prix Cars, Masters Racing Legends and Masters Endurance Legends – will double up with races on both Saturday and Sunday. Others such as the Adrian Flux Trophy for Transatlantic Pre ’66 Touring Cars, Royal Automobile Club Historic Tourist Trophy and MRL Pre-War ‘BRDC 500’ will enjoy longer, single showdowns over the action-packed weekend.

A full list of all 14 confirmed grids is now available below and on the event’s website (https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/the-classic/track-action).

Providing exceptionally good value, all tickets for The Classic give access to both racing paddocks, the world exclusive display of Lewis Hamilton’s seven title winning cars, open trackside grandstand seating, all three nights live music featuring Rick Astley, Sister Sledge and Gabrielle, the Foodie Fest plus the vast majority of the non-stop family entertainment and attractions on offer – all being enhanced for the Bank Holiday in 2022.
