GOODWOOD SPEEDWEEK CONFIRMS KEVIN McCLOUD, TWIGGY AND RICHARD PETTY AS JUDGES FOR DESIGN AND FASHION COMPETITIONS

October 13, 2020

Goodwood is pleased to confirm Kevin McCloud, Twiggy and Richard Petty as judges for three exclusive competitions as part of SpeedWeek@Home. These are part of an interactive line-up of fan competitions during Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard.

The Central Feature competition takes inspiration from the stunning sculptures created each year for the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and which reflect the event’s annual celebration of automotive design and motoring heritage.

In the lead up to SpeedWeek, fans are invited to create their own Central Feature, using any materials that they so desire. Extra recognition will be given for the use of sustainable materials. Entries can then be made by uploading an image or video of the finished creation to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #SpeedWeekCentralFeature.

The competition hopes to attract an array of inspired entrants, displaying their design skills at home in the hope of winning a sensational VIP experience at next year’s Festival of Speed. McCloud is best known for the BAFTA award-winning series Grand Designs, first aired on Channel 4 and now in its 20th year of broadcast. His architectural knowledge and eye for great design makes him the perfect judge for the competition.

McCloud said: “Without being able to enjoy the Goodwood events in person this year, what better way to bring the spirit of Goodwood into your own home by taking on the challenge of designing and building your own Central Feature. While we aren’t looking for a skyscraping architectural behemoth which towers above your home, we will be looking for creativity, ingenuity and a design that makes us smile. It can be any size and made of any material but extra points will be awarded for sustainability and of course, for a great story behind the design. Whether it is celebrating the Battle of Britain, a tribute to Sir Stirling Moss or simply honouring your own love of motorsport, quite frankly…anything goes.”

Every year the Goodwood Revival’s Best Dressed competition is a key part in recreating the spirit of yesteryear at the three-day event, where fashion-fans dress to impress in 40s, 50s and 60s style outfits.

Goodwood hopes that despite not being able to attend the Revival in person, the event’s legion of loyal fans will be keen to show off their tweeds, the wartime make-do and mend, their rockabilly outfits and their Teddy Boy suits, on social media.

And who better to judge Revival Best Dressed, than a British culture and fashion icon? Prominent swinging sixties model, Twiggy, will be using her style expertise to select her favourite lady and gentleman sporting the classic Revival dress code.

Entrants can strut their stuff by uploading an image of their outfit to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #RevivalBestDressed.

Each winner will be invited to enjoy a VIP experience for two at the Goodwood Revival in 2021, a top of the range Huawei MatePad tablet , a goodie bag of VO5 haircare products and two magnums of Veuve Clicquot Champagne to celebrate – one of which will be enjoyed at next year’s event.

Young fans of film Cars will be excited to hear that the voice actor behind popular character ‘The King’, NASCAR legend Richard Petty, will be judging the children’s Design a Mini competition.

The competition is open to children up to the age of twelve, who are challenged to use Goodwood’s 1960s Mini Cooper S template and get creative by designing their very own Mini livery, using whichever creative materials take their fancy.

Entrants can submit their design by getting a responsible adult to upload a picture of their finished artwork to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtag #SpeedWeekMini.

One lucky winner will be chosen by Petty to have their design wrapped on a real life mini, which will race at the Goodwood Revival next year, as the winner and their family cheer it around the track. If that wasn’t enough, the winner will also enjoy a car boot filled with M&Ms to celebrate their victory!

As the anticipation starts to build ahead of SpeedWeek, entries are now open and fans are urged to get stuck in now to be in with a chance of getting their designs in front of McCloud and Petty or to flaunt their style in front of Twiggy and to potentially win one of the fantastic prizes.
